For the New Punter it is Vital You Approach Betting Like James Bond Would: Ice Cold and Emotionless
If you are a new punter and keen to bet for profit and not just fun, now is the time to strip yourself of emotions.
Most punters can't do this eg they find it hard to bet against their team because they don't want to be cheering on the opposition or they just feel like having a bet so even though they can't find great value they still put a bet on for the sake of it.
If you are betting in small amounts for fun then emotion doesn't really matter. A friend of mine was once so desperate for the football team he follows to win a vital match he backed the opposition just so that if his team lost he'd have monetary compensation to ease his pain.
But if you are being professional about it you will agree emotion and sentiment have no place in your strategy. If you keep a diary of your results and regularly show it to your family and friends this will help you overcome emotion-based decisions.
Ask yourself this question: If you had a son who made it to the olympic games 100 metre final and started favourite but you thought the second favourite represented great value what would you do? If your answer is anything other than 'I'd back the second favourite and still cheer on my son' then serious sports betting is not for you.
